Dynamite Entertainment will launch The Spider, a new comic series based on the 1930s pulp hero, in May. It will be written by David Liss with art by Colton Worley, and covers by Alex Ross, John Cassaday, Francesco Francavilla, and Ron Lesser. Liss is best known for Black Panther: Man Without Fear.
The character, created by Harry Steeger at Popular Publications in 1933, was further developed in the novels by Norvell W. Page. Richard Wentworth is a decorated war hero and the son of a wealthy industrialist who takes up a pair of pistols and uses them to fight a one man war against crime. The villains are historically major, requiring a ferocious hero to defeat them.
