Dan Mazeau, who worked on Wrath of the Titans, has been signed to write a screenplay for the Bleach feature.  This is the first visible motion on the feature since the Warners deal to acquire the rights was first reported almost two years ago (see “Warners Acquires the Rights to ‘Bleach’”).  As reported at that time, Peter Segal, who exec produced and directed Get Smart (and directed The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates, Anger Management, and others), will produce.  New in the most recent announcement is the suggestion that Segal may also direct the film.

In addition to Segal, additional producers include Segal partner Michael Ewing, Masi Oka (Heroes) and Jason Hoffs, Viz Productions Head of Production, according to the report.  Oka co-starred in Get Smart and brought Bleach to Segal and Ewing’s production company. 

Viz Productions was formed in 2008 to bring Viz properties to Hollywood for film and TV projects (see “Viz Productions”).
