Marvel Comics continues to tease its next big event and this time it’s Captain America’s turn. Cap’s bloody and damaged shield is the subject of the third "This Is War" teaser, and once again October is designated as the month that this saga, whatever it is, will debut. The fact that October is the first post-Avengers vs. X-Men month has certainly fueled speculation that the "intra-Marvel" conflict will continue in some form. Marvel’s announcement that preliminary facts about the October conflict will be revealed at the Spider-Man panel at Comic-Con certainly brings another major player in the Marvel Universe into the "This Is War" action.
The first two teaser images, Thor’s damaged hammer Mjolnir and a limp Wolverine hand immersed in flame, would tend to indicate that two of the primary denizens of the Marvel Universe are in some jeopardy (see "Spider-Man, Avengers to Declare War"), while this latest image of Cap’s damaged shield indicates that he is not immune from the dangers of this new October conflict. Could this all just be the aftermath of Avengers vs. X-Men, or will the conflict spread, or will a new menace appear and reunite the conflict-sundered Marvel heroes?
