The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has disbursed another $10,000 to fund defense costs for Ryan Matheson, the young man who was charged with importation of child pornography into Canada for humor and fantasy manga on his laptop.  Although the charges were eventually dropped (see "Charges Dropped in Canadian Manga Censorship Case"), Matheson still owed $45,000 to his attorney after earlier contributions from supporting organizations, which this additional amount goes to help pay off.
The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has now contributed a total of $30,000 to Matheson’s defense and Canada’s Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund has contributed $11,000, and the CBLDF seeks to raise another $34,000 to completely pay off Matheson’s defense costs, which totaled $75,000.
Matheson will appear on panels at San Diego Comic-Con and Otakon this summer to discuss his case.  The Fund continues its work to educate comics and manga fans about their rights and to defend those rights.  Visit CBLDF.org to contribute or for more information.
