Comic-Con News:  Chris Columbus and his 1492 production company are developing a 4-part horror anthology film based on the classic Warren horror magazines Creepy and Eerie.  Columbus is teaming with the Braun Brothers, who acquired the rights to the Warren magazines in 2007. 

 

Published between 1964 and 1983, the Warren horror magazines kept alive the horror comic traditions of the early 1950s, though the magazines’ interiors were in black-and-white rather than color.  The magazine format (and perhaps even the B&W interiors) helped insulate the magazines from the kind of censorship attacks that torpedoed EC and the other horror comic book publishers in the 1950s.

 

Frank Frazetta, Bernie Wrightson, Gene Colon, Richard Corben, Al Williamson, and Wally Wood are just some of the talented comic artists who created the striking color covers for the Warren horror magazines.  Dark Horse Comics has been publishing some excellent collections of material from both Creepy and Eerie.

 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbus, who directed the first Harry Potter film, plans to direct one of the segments of the Creepy horror anthology film that his producing.
