The long-gestating movie based on Mattel’s Masters of the Universe may have a director; Jon M. Chu, who directed G.I. Joe: Retaliation, is in talks to take over the project, according to Hollywood Reporter. The G.I. Joe sequel has been troubled, with its release delayed to provide time for reworking (see "'G.I. Joe' Needed Work"), but it has given Chu experience in directing a film based on a toy line, which apparently was attractive to Sony.
Sony acquired rights to the property in 2009, after Mattel and Warner Bros. parted ways over creative differences (see "'MotU' Lands at Sony").
