Universal has set a June 28th, 2013 debut date for Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, the sequel to the controversial indie film directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the Marvel Icon miniseries by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. Jeff Wadlow will direct Kick Ass 2 with Vaughn producing. Next summer is already looking very crowded with plenty of comic book-based movies vying for attention. If the current schedule holds, Kick-Ass 2 will debut just two weeks after Man of Steel and one week after the Brad Pitt zombie epic World War Z. One week after Balls to the Wall hits theaters, The Lone Ranger will ride into theaters, and a week after that Guillermo del Toro's mecha vs. monsters film Pacific Rim unspools.
In order to make that premiere date production is ramping up with two additional casting announcements made today, which Deadline reports include Morris Chestnut, who will play Hit Girl’s guardian (since her father did not survive the first Kick-Ass film), and English actor Robert Emms, who will portray Insect Man in Kick-Ass 2, which will include storylines from the Hit Girl and the Kick-Ass 2 miniseries.

Chestnut and Emms join a cast that features surviving characters from the original film including Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass, Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Red Mist along with the addition of Donald Faison (see "Donald Faison as Dr. Gravity") and the return of Yancy Butler as Red Mist’s mother (see "Yancy Butler in 'Kick-Ass 2'").
