NYCC News: Movie director David Fincher, Blur Studios, Dark Horse Comics, and comic artist Eric Powell have timed the launch of their Goon Animated Feature Kickstarter to coincide with the New York Comic Con.  In spite of the fact that Fincher, who directed the big-budget Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is a highly successful director doesn’t mean that he can pony up the millions it would take to create an animated Goon feature film.  While the creators and Blur Studios, which would produced the feature, did create a 2-minute Goon "Proof of Concept" test reel back in 2010 (see above), they weren’t able to find a studio willing to finance a feature film based on the gritty "R" rated Goon comic with its over-the-top humor, its unrelenting mayhem and violence, and its cast of supernatural monsters that are anything but cute and cuddly Pixar creations.

So Fincher, Powell, and Blur Studios have set up a Kickstarter project with the expressed goal of raising $400,000 in order to create an extended story reel that will provide "a complete look at the film’s potential."  Actors Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti are set to return as the mesomorphic Goon and his fast-talking buddy Franky respectively.

In just four days, the project, which has until November 11th to earn the full $400K has brought in $118,941 from people who are interested in helping to make "a new kind of animated film... one that is loud, violent, and offensive to your grandmother."
