NECA has acquired a license from 4K Media Inc. to produce collectibles and accessories based on Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game artwork, the first time that any licensee has been granted permission to use art from the TCG, the companies announced today.
The target market for the NECA line will be older collectors, which has not previously had Yu-Gi-Oh! products created for it.
"We are happy to have a partner in NECA who understands this customer niche and appreciates our fan base," 4K president Shinichi Hanamoto said. "We look forward to being able to provide product for this demographic of ours who have been clamoring for it for many years."
NECA Yu-Gi-Oh! products will include action figures, headknockers, collectible replicas, puzzles, jewelry, posters, calendars, and accessories. The first products will be released in time for Comic-Con in July, and will continue to roll out through the end of the year.
The license is exclusive for all world territories except Asia. 4K Media Inc. is the new wholly owned subsidiary of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. (producer of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG) created out of assets acquired from 4Kids Entertainment last year (see "Top Ten Hobby Games Business Events of 2012").
NECA subsidiary WizKids Games also acquired a Yu-Gi-Oh! license, for creation of HeroClix and Dice-Building games based on Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic animation (see "'Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix'").
