Hasbro Productions will release the feature My Little Pony: Equestria Girls in over 200 theaters in June, according to the New York Times. Equestria Girls is a brand extension in which the My Little Pony characters are teenage girls in high school. Equestria Girls was done with the same creative team, animation style, and message of friendship as the core show, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
Equestria Girls will be released on DVD and on The Hub later. Merchandise for the new property is also in the picture, including toys, apparel, publishing and accessories.
Sales on My Little Pony products are booming (see "Bronies Drive 'MLP' Hits"); we’ll see if licensees and customers latch onto the new spin-off with equal enthusiasm.
