DC Comics today unveiled the logo for Superman Unchained, the new Superman comic book series by Scott Snyder and Jim Lee that is slated to debut two days before Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel debuts in theaters nationwide (see "Snyder-Lee Superman Book Gets Title"). The new logo, which was revealed in a two-page ad, hearkens back to the classic 3-D 1930s-style lettering long associated with the comics’ original superhero. It differs significantly from the logo for Snyder’s film, which only makes sense since, despite the timing of its release, Superman Unchained is not a movie adaptation, but the start of a new comic series by DC’s top writer and artist. In fact, the new comic book series traces its graphic roots back to Action Comics #1.
June is shaping up to be a very big month for DC’s original superhero. Zack Snyder’s heavily-promoted Man of Steel film is currently tracking for a very big ($100 million) debut, and Scott Snyder’s Superman Unchained, which is supported by a boatload of variant covers, is a favorite to be the #1 comic in June. The odds are even better that the $4.99 Superman Unchained #1, which will include what will likely be a truly spectacular 4-page, 2-sided fold-out, will be the #1 dollar book of the month.
