Fox has placed a series order for Gotham, featuring a young Commissioner Gordon, according to Deadline. The deal was preceded by a bidding war, according to the report.
Batman will not appear in the series, which will focus on Gordon’s early career as a detective and the origins of some Batman villains.
The series will be produced by Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist showrunner Bruno Heller. The show sounds like it may have elements from Gotham Central, which did not feature Commissioner Gordon, but which has been in development as a TV series for nearly a decade.
DC’s primetime schedule is ramping up; a Flash series is spinning off from Arrow (see "'Flash' Cast").
