The Hub Network has announced the premiere of the OVA Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 Saturday for February 1st at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
The animated feature is the first in a planned trilogy, produced by Stan Lee Comics (a joint venture among Genius Brands International, Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment and Archie Comics). The Hub Network will have the worldwide premiere of all three OVAs.
ICv2 covered the announcement of an initial deal to produce programming based on the property in 2012 (see "'Stan Lee's Mighty 7'"), but the project has clearly undergone a few changes since then. Archie produced only three issues of the planned six issue miniseries that launched around the same time.
The 90 minute movie will feature Lee as an animated version of himself (a legendary superhero creator), who teaches a crew of alien prisoners and jailers, who crash-landed on Earth, how to work together and use their powers as superheroes. The all-star cast features the voices of Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), Jim Belushi (The Defenders), Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Darren Criss (Glee), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger), Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives), Michael Ironside (Transformers Prime) and Christian Slater (Breaking In).
