ADV Films CEO John Ledford announced in Cannes this week that ADV has acquired the rights to produce a live action version of Gainax animated series Neon Genesis Evangelion. ADV has already begun development on the theatrical feature. Special visual effects for the film will be created by Weta Workshop Ltd., which had a similar role for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Weta has won three Academy Awards for its work on Lord of the Rings. In addition to Neon Genesis Evangelion DVDs from ADV (the series) and Manga Entertainment (features), manga from Viz and toys imported by Diamond are available.
