In a conference call with investors Disney CEO Robert Iger revealed that events in the upcoming Captain America: Winter Soldier, which debuts on April 4th, will have a major impact Joss Whedon’s Avengers: The Age of Ultron, which is slated to bow in the summer of 2015. Iger also indicated that the events in Winter Soldier will have an impact on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series as well, continuing a trend to draw the fledgling TV series closer to the Marvel universe (see "'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Ups Its Comic Character Count").
Speaking to investors, Iger talked about the recent success of the third Iron Man film and the second Thor movie, both of which performed better than their predecessors at the box office, noting: "We expect this trend to continue when Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4th , in the United States. Having seen it a few times already, I can tell you this sequel takes the Captain America story to an incredible new level and I think audiences are going to be more invested in this character than ever before. Because, all Marvel content and characters exist in connected universe, this movie also sets some critical events in motion that will lead directly into Avengers: Age of Ultron and some facets of the story in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will also be reflected in upcoming episodes of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC."
