Horror writer Nancy A. Collins will write a new Vampirella series beginning in June, publisher Dynamite Entertainment announced.
Collins, whose comic credits include Swamp Thing, Jason vs. Leatherface, Machina Jones, and Predator: Hell Come a Walkin’, is also well known in the prose world for her Sonja Blue Sunglasses after Dark series.
Art for the series will be done by Patrick Berkenkotter (Red Sonja, The Torch, Avengers/Invaders).
For Issue #1, several variant covers will be made available. The main cover will be by Terry Dodson (X-Men, Wonder Woman), a subscription cover will be done by Stephanie Buscema (The Brave and the Bold, Simon Dark), and Sergio Fernandez Davila (Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure) will do a retailer exclusive variant image that can be tailored to include comic shop names. Other retailer incentive covers will be provided by Jenny Frison, Sergio Fernandez Davila, Jack Jadson, Mimi Yoon, and Ken Haeser.
"I'm very excited about taking over the reins on Vampirella," says Nancy Collins. "In celebration of her 45th anniversary, I'm returning the book's focus to its horror roots and giving Vampirella a slightly darker edge."
The story will follow Vampirella being sent by the Vatican to investigate a child kidnapping by the Cult of Chaos. From there she will have to battle both a demonic threat and an elite Vatican hit-squad.
