DC Entertainment Senior Vice President-Sales and Marketing Bob Wayne will leave the company prior to its planned move from New York to Burbank next year (see "DC Comics Leaving New York"). Wayne, a Texas native, has not said what he will do after his departure from DC.
Wayne has been at DC since 1987, a short time into the tenure of Paul Levitz in an executive position (see "Paul Levitz's Incredible 36 Years at DC"), and is one of the last of Levitz’s long-term team to leave the company since Levitz left in 2009.
Wayne, a former comic store owner, played a key role over that period as a champion of comic retailers, nurturing the growth of the channel and making sure it received its due in allocation of resources and attention. He was also a fierce competitor who sought to use that superior relationship with retailers to give his company’s products a leg up on its competitors’.
Wayne’s role grew in importance through the 90s, and he was a Vice President by the time he was jousting with Marvel President Bill Jemas in 2001 (see "Dueling Majors"). After Levitz’s departure in 2009 and the decision to keep sales and marketing in New York, Wayne was promoted to Senior Vice President-Sales and Marketing in 2010 (see "Bob Wayne Promoted to SVP Sales & Marketing").
Wayne continues to be active in his role at DC for now.
