Comic Con India and Reed Exhibitions announced a joint venture "to grow the pop culture space in India and bring world class events to Indian fans." Comic Con India will join the growing ReedPOP portfolio of pop culture events including the New York Comic Con, PAX, the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Oz Comic Con, and the Singapore Toy, Gaming & Comics Convention.
Comic Con India’s founder Jatin Varma explained; "Starting off as an experiment back in 2011 in New Delhi, Comic Con India has come a long way in the past three years. We have built a strong portfolio of events nationally. Working closely with leading publishers, we have put comics, especially Indian comics, back on the map and opened up the pop culture space even further in India." Comic Con India has three more events scheduled in 2014 including the Bangalore Comic Con (Sept. 12-14), the Hyderabad Comic Con (Oct. 10-12), and the Mumbai Film and Comic Convention (Dec. 19-21).
In an interview with ICv2 last May, Reed Exhibitions’ Global SVP Lance Fensterman mentioned that ReedPOP had some "cool stuff" in the works in the international market, a veiled allusion to new agreement signed with Comic Con India (see "Fensterman Interview: C2E2 Gender Mix Shifting").
