Filmmaker Patrick Braoude intends to begin turning the popular French comic character Iznogoud into a feature film in early 2004, according to Screen Daily. The cast of the live action film is expected to include comedians Michael Youn and Jacques Villeret. The comic, created by the late Rene Goscinny, follows the expoits of the Grand Vizier Iznogoud and his sidekick Wa'at in their quest to make him ruler of the Caliphate of Baghdad. Goscinny's Asterix was the source material for a successful French film last year (see 'Live Action Asterix Film Boffo in France'). Goscinny's The Daltons is also being made as a live action feature, and an animated Asterix is in the pipe.
