Comic books got a two-page spread in this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, and the lowest grade that any of the various comics and graphic novels received was a 'B.'  Tom Russo wrote the lead article, an appreciation of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which the reviewer quite naturally preferred over the film adaptation.  Four graphic novels were cited in a 'Graphic Novels You Have To Read' segment including Eric Shanower's brilliant A Thousand Ships (Image), Alan Moore's Across the Universe (DC), Harlan Ellison and Richard Corben's Vic and Blood (ibooks), and G.T. Labs' Fallout.  (Note to retailers--be sure to have A Thousand Ships in stock when the big budget Troy movie comes out.)

EW's comics section also includes Ken Tucker's interview with Judd Winick, which in spite of a fixation on the writer's appearance on MTV's 'Real World,' does include a few nice references to Winick's new Outsiders book for DC.  A number of comics got short, graded reviews including Jill Thompson's manga-esque Death: At Death's Door (DC Comics, B+), Jim Woodring's The Frank Book (Fantagraphics, A-), Brian K. Vaughn's Runaways (Marvel, B), Al Williamson Adventures (Insight Studios, A), and Eric Powell's The Goon (Dark Horse, A).
