Variety is reporting that screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis is the latest Tinseltown scribe to be given the formidable task of creating a viable Wonder Woman screenplay. Todd Alcott, Becky Johnson, and Phillip Leven are just a few of the writers who have labored on the Wonder Woman project, which producer Joel Silver (Matrix) is preparing for Warner Brothers. Ms. Kalogridis is best known as the screenwriter and executive producer of the short-lived Birds Of Prey TV series, which was adapted from a DC comic book for the WB network. Variety reports that Ms. Kalogridis wants to go back to the character's comic book roots and base her script on the Amazing Amazon's origin story, but with a contemporary setting and feel.
If the Wonder Woman film does get made (and it won't be released before 2005 at the earliest), it appears likely that Warner Brothers will schedule it as a major summer release. Obviously no casting choices have been made yet, but major stars including Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lopez are reportedly interested in the part.
