Although Hollywood producers rarely say 'never' when talking about possible sequels to moneymaking movies, Joel Silver, who produced the Matrix trilogy for Warner Brothers, was definitive when asked about the possibility of future sequels to the Matrix, saying, 'That will never happen.' Matrix stars Carrie-Anne Moss and Lawrence Fishburne, who also attended the premiere of The Matrix Revolutions, the final film in the trilogy, on Monday night in Los Angeles, clearly don't expect to reprise the roles they have created. Moss commented tearfully, 'Like the poster says, 'Everything that has a beginning has an end.' I feel very much that way, when I saw that poster I literally started crying.'
However the Matrix property is likely to continue in video games and possibly in other media. With the interests that the Wachowski brothers have in animation and comics, it is always possible that they might provide some 'side stories' or fill in some narrative gaps in some other medium aside from film.
