Devil's Due Publishing reported two new sellouts this week; Dragonlance: The Legend of Huma #3 and the Hedge Knight Collected Edition may still exist at retail, but these titles are no longer available from Diamond in spite of significant overprints. Last week Devil's Due reported that G I Joe: Reborn sold out despite a hefty $4.95 cover price (it is a 48-page issue) and a 20% overprint. Devil's Due realizes that retailers are ordering conservatively and has been overprinting substantially, but even a 30% overage on Dragonlance and a 50% overprint on the Hedge Knight Collected Edition (which reprints issues 1-3) were not enough.
The common denominator among all three recent Devil's Due sellouts is the fact that they are based on solid properties. GI Joe is an American icon, who always seems to do well when the world is in turmoil, while Dragonlance remains one of the most popular D&D sagas of all time, and George R.R. Martin's Hedge Knight fantasy novels have already attracted serious attention from fans.
