DC has announced plans to double its monthly output of licensed European graphic novels, from 36 to 72 book titles per year.  It's doing so by acquiring the North American license to publish material owned by UK publisher Rebellion, which owns the rights to 2000 AD, Judge Dredd Magazine, and a large archive of comic material.  DC plans 36 book releases a year of Rebellion material.

Since most of the current crop of popular British comic creators passed through 2000 AD or its sister publications at one point or another in their careers, the archive contains a significant amount of relatively high quality material.

The first releases are slated for September:  The Batman/Judge Dredd Files, and Sinister Dexter:  Gunshark Vacation.

Rebellion is primarily a videogame producer, which acquired the 2000 AD rights in 2000.  It released a Judge Dredd vs. Death videogame in 2003.

2000 AD has been published weekly since the late 70s.  Judge Dredd Megazine has been published monthly since 1990.
