The 2-Disk Hellboy DVD, which Columbia TriStar is releasing on July 27, includes some surprising previously unannounced bonus features, which have only come to light recently as review copies have been sent out.  Tucked away on disk one and listed as 'Recommended by Hellboy' are three of the four classic Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons.  Based on a record by Dr. Seuss, Gerald McBoing-Boing is the story of a little boy who used sound effects instead of words.  Produced by UPA, the Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons were extremely influential in blazing a path to a new visual style in American animation, and the character was popular enough that he (and UPA's other great creation Mr. Magoo) eventually got their own Dell comic book.

In addition to the three Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons the new Hellboy DVD also includes a cartoon more in keeping (thematically speaking) with the Hellboy saga -- the classic UPA version of Edgar Allen Poe's The Telltale Heart.  All in all the animated extras on the new Hellboy DVD are truly 'bonus' features, which fans should relish.
