It was only fitting that Lucasfilm, which, in conjunction with its licensees, had its largest presence ever at the San Diego Comic Con International, chose this venue to announce the title of Star Wars Episode 3, the sixth and final Star Wars film, which will be known as Revenge of the Sith.
The continuing popularity of the Star Wars franchise was evidenced in the large number of fully costumed Imperial Stormtroopers and Jedi Knights who roamed the halls of the Convention Center, marking Star Wars as the most popular of the many cosplay options on display at San Diego.
If what Lucasfilm did at San Diego is any indication, it appears that Lucasfilm and Fox will go all out to promote the final Star Wars film, and although the franchise has suffered from less than stellar reactions to the last two films, excitement for the final film in the saga appears to be building at least among the hardcore Star Wars fans.
With the DVD debut of the classic first three Star Wars films this fall (see 'Star Wars Trilogy DVD Details Revealed'), interest in the property should continue to build up as we get closer to Episode 3's debut in May 2005.
