This Sunday night at 8pm (ET, PT) the Travel Channel presents the Marvel Super Heroes Guide to New York City -- a special documentary that spotlights the impact that New York City locations have had on the Marvel Universe and vice versa. The show will feature a number of Marvel luminaries including Stan Lee and former Marvel EIC Roy Thomas discussing the relationship between the Big Apple and the mighty Marvel superheroes.
Anyone who has read Marvel comics (or even seen Spider-Man 2) is aware of the special relationship between Marvel heroes and that real world metropolis on the Hudson. By anchoring the exploits of its fantastically powerful characters in a real place (and by giving them the hang-ups and problems of everyday people) Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and the other original creators of the Marvel universe made super heroes more accessible and life-like in spite of the genre's spandex costumes and science-defying super powers.
