On Monday, July 30, The Late Show with David Letterman featured Mark Borchardt and Mike Schank of American Movie fame on a mission to record the San Diego Comic-Con International.  If you haven't seen American Movie--a documentary about Borchardt's toil and travails to produce an independent movie--it's worth a rental, or perhaps even carrying in your store.  Borchardt and Schank are surreal Milwaukee characters, sort of a Midwestern take on Jay and Silent Bob.  The segment started out with 'couch time' for Mike and Mark.  First Dave asked them if they knew anything about Comic-con, and got these gems in return:.

Mike -- ' I knew nothing about it.'

Mark -- ' I may have.  I hear a lot of different things and that might have been one of them.'

Then they ran the film of Mark and Mike at Comic-con, a typical Late Show piece consisting of the two cruising the floor of the convention, interacting with the exhibits and the attendees.  Interspersed with the time on the floor were numerous scenes of Mike sharing cigarettes outside with various costumed characters, including Darth Maul, Wolverine, and a Klingon.  Mike and Mark found the Time Machine (see 'San Diego Comic-Con Wrap-up'), with Mike wanting to use it to go to 'Mars.'  Other choice scenes included Mark telling Wonder Woman he had a 'hot, single dude' for her, and asking a costumed Klingon to 'say something in Klingon.'  Over-all, a nice piece of publicity for the convention and the fun to be had there, especially with Borchardt's summary endorsement, 'Great time, man.'
