The HIV storyline beginning in Green Arrow #43, released Wednesday, is getting some major publicity from news organs around the country.  An AP story is spreading the word, and major metro outlets, including the New York Times, are picking up the story. 

 

The Green Arrow storyline, written by Judd Winick, features long-term character Mia discovering that she is HIV-positive, which motivates her to fight crime as Green Lantern's sidekick Speedy. 

 

Winick is drawing on his own experience for the storyline.  He appeared on MTV's Real World in 1993 with Pedro Zamora, who died of AIDS the next year.
