Wizard Press's Anime Insider is reporting that MTV has licensed the anime movie based on Santa Inoue's hip-hop manga, Tokyo Tribes, for a U.S. release in 2006.  The movie will be released in Japan (most likely in theaters) in 2006, but details about the U.S. release are not available at this time.  Madhouse Studio is producing the anime movie, which is based on the hard-hitting manga series about warring Tokyo street gangs released in the U.S. by Tokyopop.  The first volume of Tokyopop's Tokyo Tribes debuted last September.  The second volume is scheduled for February and the third for April 2005.

Tokyo Tribes' creator Santa Inoue appeared on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on October 17th, transforming the bedroom of a 14-year-old boy into a manga lover's paradise by painting a stunning hip-hop manga mural on the walls (see 'Tokyo Tribes Creator Does Extreme Makeover').  Inoue told Anime Insider that he wanted Dr. Dre to provide the soundtrack for the Tokyo Tribes anime movie.
