Universal's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life appears to be progressing nicely. Shaun of the Dead helmer Edgar Wright has signed on to direct (see 'Universal Options Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life') and Michael Bacall has been hired to write an adaptation of the first book in O'Malley's trilogy of graphic novels (published by Oni Press).
Bacall has written the screenplays for In Search of Captain Zero, which is one of Sean Penn's several current projects, and Justice Deferred, an adaptation of the novel by Len Williams that Warner Bros. is producing.
Oni has published two volumes of O'Malley's trilogy so far. Scott Pilgrim Versus the World came out this February. Even retailers who haven't ordered either of the Scott Pilgrim books should pay attention to the progress of the Universal Scott Pilgrim movie -- with Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright in charge this project has 'cult hit' written all over it, and the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels should see a huge jump in sales and popularity if and when the movie debuts.
