Viz plans a festival and theatrical release of Kamikaze Girls, a live action film by director Tetsuya Nakashima, followed by a DVD and publishing program in early 2006.  The film won a number of awards in Japan, including best picture, director, actress, supporting actress and new actor in the Yokohama Movie Awards, and Best New Director in the Fujimoto Awards. 

 

Kamikaze Girls is based on the novel Shimotsuma Story by Noveala Takemoto.  The Lolita meets Biker Girl characters are played by J-pop stars Kyoko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya. 

 

The festival release will include the New York Asian Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Festival, both this month. 

 

The DVD will be released in January.  Viz will publish the translated novel and launch the manga series in early 2006.
