Bon Alimagno (Editorial Director) and Yoshi Aino (Associate Publisher) of Harris Comics told ICv2 at San Diego Comic-Con International about what makes the new Vampirella nine-issue maxiseries special. Vampirella: Revelations #1 will be in stores this November, with copies of the 25 cent zero issue handed out at the show to give retailers and potential readers ideas of what to expect.
Alimagno explained that this Vampirella relaunch, which may run longer than the currently scheduled nine issues, will focus more on character development and plot, while still providing attractive visuals. He said the whole point of this series is to make Vampirella more than just a pin-up book and feels it will surprise a lot of people.
The first issue will have two covers, one by Jose Gonzalez (who Harris didn't know was even still alive until recently), described by Harris as the 'best artist in Vampirella history,' who will be providing his first Vampi piece in many years. The other cover will be an homage to Frank Frazetta's classic Vampirella #1 cover by Mark Texiera.
These covers will not be shipped in random or preordained percentages, but will be offered individually to retailers so they can determine exactly how many they want to order of each.
