Anthony Furfferi of Empire Comics in Rochester, New York saw the discussion of comics with variant covers, prompted by the initial comment from Dave Autzen of Reader's World (see 'Dave Autzen of Reader's World on Ordering Variants'), and let us know that he would prefer a simpler approach:

Regarding variants, again.  They do come with problems.  How many do we order?  Who wants one once we do order them?  Did we miss that Neal Adams cover ... oh well.  Years past, customers complained of the variants which makes me shake my head as to why they would want them now.  I have to agree, just give the customers books with words in them, and some fine art.  Quit looking for more gimmicks to sell books.  The market is flooded with them.  Simply make good books customers want to read, and then, Diamond, make them available to us for reorders.  Maybe place those (er, way cool variants), in a book so we can simply order the book for those that want it.  I personally see no point to variants in my decades of experience.

To the other retailers: order with your wallet not your wishes.  Remember the days when variants nearly broke the industry along with many other gimmicks from the manufacturers.
