The BBC has been doing an excellent job in restoring classic Doctor Who episodes and releasing them on DVD, but few episodes have the 'cult hit' potential of Doctor Who Episode 105: 'City of Death,' which stars fan favorite Timelord Tom Baker and was co-written by Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).  With the plethora of DVD (and especially TV shows on DVD) releases, this particular release might get lost in the shuffle, but savvy retailers will not ignore its potential.

The BBC certainly realized that City of Death (MSRP $34.98) was something special; it is one of relatively few episodes that get the deluxe 2-disk treatment.  In addition to no fewer than three commentary tracks the package includes a 45-minute documentary, 'Paris in the Springtime,' which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the production and pays particular attention to Douglas Adams' contributions to the episode.  Another featurette, 'Paris W12' gives viewers a 20-minute look inside the studio, while still another short documentary, 'Chicken Wrangler,' demonstrates the difficulties of directing live chickens for the special effects sequences.  Add in a photo gallery, production notes, Easter Eggs and a DVD-ROM that includes the 1980 Doctor Who Annual in PDF format, and the result is a 'must-have' DVD for the true Doctor Who fan; and with the success of the new Doctor Who series in England, this property is definitely on the upswing again.
