Warner Brothers Home Video has announced that it will release X-Men: Evolution -- The Complete Third Season (MSRP $19.98) on May 23 just in time to take full advantage of the opening of the third X-Men film over the ensuing Memorial Day weekend.

Such convenient timing is to be expected, but what is more interesting (as the TV Shows on DVD Website points out) is the transition from the way in which the first two 13-episode seasons of X-Men: Evolution were released (as 4 separate disks for each season) to the Complete Third Season 2-disk package.  Yes, the technology of dual-layer (and often double-sided) disks has made it possible to get all 13 episodes of Season 3 plus a lot of extras on two two disks, but with the increasing number of TV shows available on DVD, the price per episode is dropping like a stone.  Buying the four disks for either of the first two seasons of X-Men: Evolution would have cost the consumer three times as much as purchasing the 2-disk Complete Third Season.  The increasing competition created by the plethora of TV on DVD releases is resulting, at least in some cases, in a dramatically better deal for the consumer.  Too bad OPEC is a cartel.
