Adam Sandler's Click, which recycled Jim Carrey's Bruce Almighty via a TV remote, took the top spot at the weekend box office, with an estimated total of $40 million, while Pixar's Cars remained solidly in second place by earning $22.5 million.  Cars' third week drop was less than those of The Incredibles and Finding Nemo, though it still trails the former by 12% and the latter by 19%.  Still Cars, which has earned$155 million so far, appears to be certain to earn well over $200 million and it could well challenge X-Men: The Last Stand for the top-earning film of 2006; but to do that it will have to stand up to major challenges from Superman Returns and the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

The third X-Men film remained in the Top Ten (at #9) earning $4.4 million and bringing its total to $224 million making it the highest grossing X-Film and the best performer of 2006 so far.  In its second week of release, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift dropped like a stone, plunging 61.6%, which can only mean bad things for this street-racing franchise.

Overall the weekend take of the top 25 films was up 6% over last year when Batman Begins was the top film.  The total summer box office take has inched slightly ahead of 2005 and the heavy hitters Superman Returns and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest are set to open during the few weeks.
