The medieval Market of Alturien has up to six merchant families compete for wealth and power by attracting seven customers with varying amounts of wealth. As the game progresses, merchants build new trading halls and create mercantile empires, being on the watch for Gustavo the Weasel who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. The first merchant to gain enough wealth and three prestigious prizes is granted noble status and wins the game.
The game includes seven figures (six customers and one thief), 72 Buildings (six colors), 14 prestige cards, 12 investment cards, six market leader cards, one city guard card, 70 bills of currency, six game summaries, and two special dice.
