The Topps Company, the nation's oldest sport and entertainment card company and owner of WizKids Games, announced the closing of the acquisition of Topps by Michael Eisner's The Tornante Company,LLC and Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC. Topps stockholders will receive the agreed upon $9.75 per share for a total aggregate purchase price of $385 million.
The closing marks the end of one of the bitterest donnybrooks in the collectibles industry in years, which was precipitated by Upper Deck's offer to buy Topps (see 'Upper Deck Issues Cash Tender Offer'), an offer that was later rescinded amidst charges of duplicity from both sides (see 'Upper Deck Says No to Topps' and 'Topps Fires Back').
