In another sign that games are playing a greater role in American culture, social games are the centerpiece of events designed as an alternative to the club scene at "PlayDates," events organized under the management of Atlanta-based Timeless Entertainment Concept.  “The concept was developed to bring interesting diverse groups of people together to interact in a social setting based on playing games,” according to the company.  The events, currently in around 20 U.S. cities, began in Atlanta and are planned for expansion in many more. 

Games played include standards such as Dominoes, card games (Spades, Bid Whist, Poker), Scrabble, UNO, Trouble, Pictionary, Yahtzee, Taboo, Operation, Chutes and Ladders, Scattergories, Simon, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Battleship, Connect Four, Twister, Rock'em Sock'em Robots, Jenga, Monopoly, and Sorry.

Attendees pay a fee to attend, food and cocktails are available, and music and dancing are also part of the scene.
