Marcus King of Titan Games & Music in Kalamazoo, MI read Bill Bodden's review for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game (see "Review of 'Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay'") and Christian Petersen's response to the review (see "Christian Petersen, CEO of Fantasy Flight Games, on WFRP Review") and had this to say:
As a retailer of nearly 24 years, I have several, maybe hundreds, of friends in the industry. I like both Mr. Bodden and Mr. Petersen. I also enjoy, and sell, good quality games from both Green Ronin and FFG. I would call neither of them my friend, but I do respect both of these men's work. Let me give a completely unbiased review of the Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing Game Third Edition by Fantasy Flight Games.
Customers ask for it, hence, I will carry and sell it. I have never played any version of WFRPG, but I have carried it since the first version was printed in the "your pages will fall out as soon as you open the book" edition from the 80's.
I believe this new version, from what I have seen and read, will be two things: 1) More difficult to sell to someone not familiar with RPGs, due to the price. 2) More profitable because of the experience the game will give the players, who will enjoy it once they have had that experience.
That takes nothing away from Green Ronin's version, which was top-shelf quality, as is everything they publish, in my experience. The bottom line is that for a new publisher (new to WFRPG) to put out such an innovative spin, and aggressive product for the Third Edition of a product was ballsy. And that alone should cause players--new and old--to at least take notice.
In a sea of RPGs, my store could literally drown in reprints, re-re-re-reprints, and 4th Edition "stuff." Innovative, new, and different--that is what I am looking for.
