Mayfair Games will release Test of Fire - First Bull Run 1861, a two-player tactical war-game that recreates the first major battle of the American Civil War, on July 21st, 2011 - the sesquicentennial of the date the battle actually took place.
In Test of Fire, players will take the role of either General Beauregard of the Confederate States of America or Union General Irvin McDowell. Using simple game mechanics where dice and action cards determine command opportunities, the game will serve as an introduction to war games for new players and will present a challenge to experienced war game fans.
Test of Fire will contain a four-fold mounted map board, two decks of Command Action cards, two Order cards, 12 dice (six blue and six grey), two die-cut counter sheets and easy to follow full-color rules. The game is for ages ten and older, will take around 45 minutes to play and retails for around $30.
Test of Fire - First Bull Run 1861 is one of several new games for 2011 announced by Mayfair Games prior to this year’s New York Toy Fair. (see “Mayfair Outlines 2011 Releases”).
