British RPG publisher Mongoose Publishing is preparing to release a d20 RPG that will attempt to put a new spin on the mecha genre, WarMech -- Armageddon 2089.  Set entirely on Earth in the near future, this game extrapolates most of its weapons from current military technology with the most implausible elements being the giant humanoid mechas themselves, making this closest thing to a 'hard science' version of mecha warfare ever attempted.  The rulebook will be 256 pages, with full color throughout.  It will debut in March along with a Mech Arms and Armour Catalog, which will provide gamers with the kind of highly detailed support material they need without the long wait that often follows the release of the first book in a new gaming system.  Mongoose also plans to publish several sourcebooks as well as a range of novels set in the WarMech universe.

Mongoose is well known to American gamers thanks to the Judge Dredd and Slaine RPGs, both of which are based on popular comic book properties.  While most of Mongoose's offerings have been in the fantasy genre, the Judge Dredd RPG demonstrates that this publisher knows how to handle a science fiction game.
