Steve Jackson Games revealed some of its upcoming products at the recent ACD Open House. ICv2 took advantage of the opportunity to chat with Steve Jackson himself to learn more about these new releases. A variety of Cthulhu-related merchandise, a deer hunting dice game, and a new GURPS supplement rounded out the release plans.
Looking to expand beyond its traditional hobby gaming market, Steve Jackson is targeting sport hunters and hunting fans with Trophy Buck. Packaged in a sturdy camo bag, the 12 custom dice are used for a quick and easy-to-learn game of luck in which players try to “bag” the best bucks. Suggested retail price will be $9.95.
Jackson explained that the product was a response to feedback from fans: “This is stepping outside of our market a little bit. We get a lot of requests for games that are a little more mainstream, that game fans can use to show their family that might not be into so much into hobby games.”
Also releasing in October will be a new GURPS sourcebook: Tactical Shooting. Intended to allow a more realistic and in-depth system for firearm combat to the role-playing game, this 88-page softcover book offers new rules and player options. Suggested retail price will be $19.95.
Also, over the next few months, an assortment of new Cthulhu-themed items are scheduled:
Combining the ever-popular theme of zombies with Cthulhu, the Zombie Chibithulhu is a ten inch tall plush designed in the cute “chibi” style. The toy includes a special rule for use with the Munchkin Zombies game. Suggested retail: $22.95. Scheduled to release in October.
Also planned for October release, the Giant Cthulhu Dice will be available in four different colors: yellow, purple, red, and green. These four-inch squishy foam dice are packaged with 18 “silly bands” in Cthulhu shapes for a suggested retail price of $16.95.
Four new colors of regular-sized Cthulhu Dice are also planned: Blue with yellow for September, “sparkly” pink in November, and bone with red and red with yellow, both planned for January. Each custom 12-sided die is a stand alone game. Suggested retail price: $5.95.
Rounding out the Cthulhu merchandise will be the January release of a 30-inch Plush Tentacle. A wire embedded in the toy makes it flexible and posable, while a two-inch loop can be used as an anchor to avoid damage to the fabric. The suggested retail price will be $24.95.
