More details have emerged from Goodman Games concerning the upcoming release of the retro fantasy RPG Dungeon Crawl Classics.  To support the release of the new system, Goodman will be offering a free adventure, titled Doom of the Savage Kings, available only to the first 1,000 pre-orders.  A limited edition version of the game, with a gold foil embossed cover, is also planned.

The free adventure promotion will be available through the trade as well as direct to consumers.  Consumers who pre-order can use a form to get the same offer through their local retail store.  Goodman Games’ founder Joseph Goodman told ICv2, "I always allow brick-and-mortar retailers to get the same offer that is available online.  It’s actually advantageous for the consumer to make the purchase at retail, as they don’t have to pay shipping that way."  Only orders placed before April 1, 2012 will qualify for the free adventure.

The limited edition version of the game will be released at the same time as the standard version. It will feature a deluxe vinyl cover printed with a gold-foil image evocative of the 1970’s style of sorcery symbols.  The content will be identical to the full-color cover version.  The deluxe version of the game will have a suggested retail price of $69.99, compared to the standard version’s price of $39.99.  Those who pre-order the limited edition version are also eligible for the free adventure promotion.

The free adventure Doom of the Savage Kings will be available exclusively through this pre-order offer, and will not be available separately.  The 16 page adventure was written by Harley Stroh.

Dungeon Crawl Classics was originally scheduled for a late 2011 release, but has been delayed.  It is now expected to release in April or May of 2012.  Goodman Games has engaged the role-player community through a public beta test of the game system.  The program received over 15,000 responses during 2011.  Goodman explained that the delay was due to feedback from the beta test, and the fact that he is "focusing more on 'getting it right' than 'getting it on schedule."

Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game is based on the OGL RPG system. For more details of the game system, see "'Dungeon Crawl Classics'".
