Reiner Knizia has announced via twitter that he is working on two new Hobbit board games that are based on Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit movies.  According to Knizia, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Board Game will be released in the spring of 2013, while the second board game, The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be released in the winter of 2013, which would mean that it would arrive in the market at about the same time that Jackson’s second Hobbit movie, which of course is also called The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

Reiner Knizia is the award-winning German board game designer who designed The Hobbit board game that Fantasy Flight Games has distributed here since 2010 (see "Reiner Knizia's 'The Hobbit' Board Game”).  His tweet indicates that his The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey board game won’t be available until four or five months after Jackson’s first film debuts.  But though Knizia’s first Hobbit game won’t be available until spring of 2013, there will be a lot of Hobbit merchandise, including a WizKids HeroClix board game, available when Jackson’s first film hits in December.
