Gen Con News: At Gen Con Fantasy Flight Games showed off a new 2-person HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Card Game, which is, as its name denotes, licensed from the popular cable TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Song of Fire and Ice series of epic fantasy novels (the source FFG’s previous A Game of Thrones games such as the board game and the LCG). FFG’s Vice President of Marketing and Communication Steve Horvath told ICv2: "This is a 2-player set to introduce all of the new fans of Game of Thrones, so it’s not for our current Game of Thrones audience which is already huge, but we know there are so many other fans out there that are interested in getting in the game and this is a great introductory product for that."
The new Game of Thrones card game features the same mechanics as FFG’s Game of Thrones LCG, but as Horvath explains: "but we’ve taken them and simplified them to make it for more of a beginner audience, so it is not compatible with our main LCG. You cannot play them together. The new game will not be tournament legal for any official play at all... So it’s a stand-alone product. You can play a 2-player game. It’s a great experience. It takes the core mechanics from our regular game, simplifies them. It makes it a great introductory experience."
