Mayfair Games has announced the November release of Catan Histories: Merchants of Europe (MSRP $55.00), the English/American edition of Klaus Teuber’s 2011 Die Siedler von Catan: Aufbruch der Handler (literally "The Settlers of Catan: Rise of the Merchants"). Teuber’s Merchants of Europe uses the simple and fun Catan hex and resource system to recreate the rise of the merchant class across Europe. This classic Euro-style board game can be played with 2-4 players (best with 4), ages 12 and up, and takes about 90 minutes per game.
Players are powerful merchants who have trading posts in three cities. The idea is to recruit new merchants and have them establish new outposts in distant cities. Players have to open up trade routes and equip caravans. The winner is the player who is able to deliver all of his or her commodities to foreign cities.
The deluxe Catan Histories: Merchants of Europe game box includes: 1 double-sided game board, 120 trade routes (wood pieces in four colors), 48 trading posts (wood pieces in four colors), 8 caravans (wood pieces in 4 colors), 8 merchants (wood pieces in 4 colors, 1 robber (black wood), 95 resource cards, 25 development cards, 40 commodity tokens, 68 coins ( in "1" and "3" denominations), 15 resource number tokens, 4 building cost overviews, 2 dice, and one rulebook.
