UK miniatures company and boardgame manufacturer Mantic Games has announced plans to release a new science fiction-themed sports game called Dreadball.  The game was very well received on Kickstarter and was completely funded in only two hours; it has attracted over $250,000 dollars worth of pledged support to date.  The game is expected to release to the trade this November.

Dreadball is a football-like tactical board game that pits heavily-armored teams against each other.  The game features highly-detailed plastic miniatures for two teams (unpainted), game cards, counters, and dice.  Everything is designed to have a "clean," futuristic look, and features science fiction versions of common fantasy races such as humans, goblins, and dwarves.

Dreadball was designed by Jake Thornton, who has almost thirty years of experience in the game industry, including writing credits at Games Workshop.  The game is for two players.

The Dreadball Kickstarter program includes two retailer-targeted promotions: the "Championship Venue" includes copies of the game and a special "Demo Pitch," and the "World Series Venue" includes a premium demo board featuring the store name.
