Fantasy Flight Games is poised to release a re-vamped version of another classic board game. Gearworld: The Borderlands will release in May.

Gearworld is a game of negotiation, conquest, and construction set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk style world.  Two to four players compete to control territory and resources, which are used to build the "skyworks" needed to win the favor of the "Sky People" and win the game.  The game combines the strategy of a conquest game with negotiation and resource management elements.

The game was based on the original Borderlands design by Bill Eberle, Jack Kittredge, and Peter Olotka.  Borderlands was released in 1982 with a fantasy theme, winning a place in the Games Magazine "Games 100" list and eventually spawning two expansions.  It was something of a revolutionary design for the time, and is widely considered to be a classic.  The Fantasy Flight team has streamlined the original rules to make the game more suitable to their market audience, and gave the game a new steampunk-style setting.

Gearworld: The Borderlands will include more than 100 plastic figures, game board, and tokens.  The suggested retail price will be $49.95.
